To celebrate Conservation Week, students from South Waikato schools gathered at Jim Barnett Reserve, Waotu, for a full day of hands-on workshops focused on restoring and protecting native biodiversity.

Through our Awhi Awa sessions, rangatahi from Forest View High School and Tokoroa Intermediate created restoration plans for streams around their kura. Each school took home a kete filled with resources, stainless steel kōaro and tuna signs (crafted from recycled metal), and practical tools to help them awhi awa in their own communities.
One Forest View student summed up the kaupapa beautifully:
“If we want to save future generations we need to start today.”
Mauri ora to all the schools, presenters, and partners who came together to protect our precious freshwater taonga.
